Grain Smart Solutions

Missouri Soybeans, in partnership with AGI, hosted its first Grain Smart Field Day on June 4 to spotlight grain bin safety, technology and emergency preparedness. Held at the Farm for Soy Innovation near Columbia, MO, the event featured a rescue demo, safety equipment donations and showcased AGI’s BinManager system, a digital tool that monitors grain bin conditions remotely to reduce the need for farmers to enter bins.

“Grain bins are critical for our operation, but they’re also one of the most dangerous places on the farm,” says Brad Arnold, Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council (MSMC) board member and grower from Harrisonville. “Any time you can reduce the risk of having to go inside a bin, you’re protecting your people and your profit.”

AGI BinManager enhances safety by automating fan use based on real-time data, helping prevent spoilage and improve crop quality.

“It’s a win-win. Today’s tech has the capacity to elevate safety. Each year, grain entrapment accidents happen. AGI, along with the rest of the grain community, is on a mission to encourage farmers to turn their bins into a smart tool that reduces the risk for family and farm while improving the quality of stored crops,” says Erin Squires, AGI Digital representative.

The event also emphasized the importance of training and preparation, with a demonstration from the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), and donations of grain bin rescue tubes to two rural fire departments.
