The Assembly Manager oversees the manufacturing process within the production facility, this includes welding, assembly, and paint.  This role is responsible for ensuring that policies and processes are adhered to, while maintaining safety, productivity and quality within all areas of responsibility.

The Assembly Manager will work closely with team members at all levels within the division to collaborate and find ways to improve production processes.

This is a permanent full-time position that reports directly to the Production Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for workflow and workforce planning within all areas of responsibility
  • Plan and schedule work and daily tasks for all team members within the area
  • Coach and collaborate with all team members to ensure that they are producing a quality product efficiently and safely
  • Accountable for timely and accurate time tracking for jobs to ensure that work is being completed timely and efficiently
  • Communicate changes in priorities or project challenges effectively to required business partners
  • Work professionally with all members of the team at all levels
  • Provide training and support for the Supervisor group to ensure that they can do their jobs successfully
  • Provide leadership and direction for team members and answer questions and concerns in a positive and constructive manner
  • Assist in the development and communication of production goals, working closely with team members and business partners to meet targets
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company safety policies and operational procedures and adhere to enforcing best practices within the team
  • Provide constructive feedback and performance management for employees, addressing employee concerns with Production Management and Human Resources as necessary
  • Participate in disciplinary conversations with employees and follow up regarding their progress accordingly
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, the Production Manager and Human Resources to facilitate team performance reviews
  • Engage team members to increase morale and productivity within their given areas
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings to communicate project updates and requirements
  • Review work orders going into Production to ensure that issues are identified and addressed prior to them reaching the floor
  • Complete quality checks on items moving through the production areas to ensure product meets quality standards
  • Work closely with the Health & Safety Coordinator regarding safety incidents and hazards within areas of responsibility
  • Provide regular assembly updates to the Production Manager as required
  • Organization and coordination of training and certification for required team members, including but not limited to CWB testing, safety training and on-the-job training
  • Update and maintain the training matrix for all areas of responsibility and facilitate cross training based on business need
  • Coordinate and communicate the need for shop tools and other equipment purchases with the Production Manager
  • Lead continuous improvement activities within the given areas and be a LEAN champion for the team
  • Participate in recruitment activities for areas of responsibilities, in cooperation with Human Resources
  • Review all employee time off requests and approve requests based on availability and business need
  • Monitor employee absences and support the Supervisor Group with the enforcement of the AGI VIS Attendance Management Program
  • Review employee hours to ensure that their time is entered correctly in the payroll system and hours are approved prior to payroll processing
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Desired Experience

  • 3+ years in a Leadership or Management role within a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of Welding and Fabrication experience, with knowledge and experience using different welding techniques
  • Previous experience in metal fabrication
  • Excellent technical knowledge in all aspects of manufacturing, assembly and quality assurance
  • Strong people leadership and organizational skills
  • Previous experience with project management
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate and enhance production processes and systems, and solve quality issues
  • Experience with the coaching and development of team members
  • Proven conflict resolution skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Results orientated and ability to work as part of a functional team
  • Previous experience with 5S and Lean Manufacturing
  • Previous CWB certification would be considered an asset
