Controller

As a member of the management team this position manages the accounting and finance functions for the division including performing general ledger functions, the preparation of monthly financial statements and the management of reports and tasks that feed into those areas. Work is performed under the general direction of the General Manager at Danmare and indirect direction from the AGI Financial Team in Winnipeg. Works cooperatively with all team members inside Danmare and other AGI divisions as well as customers and suppliers. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides leadership and day to day supervision as it relates to payroll, accounting and costing functions, including but not limited to the following:

  • Prepares and reviews annual budgets and regular forecasts for revenue, expenses, capital assets and working capital
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules, ensuring entries and work occurs in a timely and accurate manner. Presents these items at meetings held
  • Performs analysis of general ledger accounts as necessary and provides input on the effective tracking of key accounts
  • Performs cost and revenue analysis as required and makes suggestions for improvement in both areas
  • Ensures documents and practices surrounding material integrity and inventory/asset management are in place and effective
  • Ensure compliance with applicable sales and use taxes as well as assist in preparation of annual income tax packages for both CDN and US operations
  • Works closely with local office team members as well as with AGI team members and external auditors or accountants
  • Acts as an effective performance coach and supervisor to the book-keeper  assisting in recruitment, completion of performance reviews and management of day to day interactions of direct reports
  • Maintains confidentiality pertaining to all aspects of team member and company matters
  • Cooperate with all areas within the company while developing goals and plans to ensure department and company objectives are met
  • Implements cost-effective procedures and production improvements

  • Ability to prepare, review and maintain all accounting functions
  • Ability to plan, assign and evaluate job tasks
  • Ability to delegate appropriate responsibility and authority to team members
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Experience in the administration and maintenance of accounting systems and processes
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships both internal and external to the organization
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary education in the area of accounting or finance.  Preference to those with an accounting designation or comparable experience
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in accounting, preference may be given to those with manufacturing or cost accounting experience
  • Past experience in supervising accounting functions and/or team members
  • A professional and positive attitude and approach to work
  • Proficient with Microsoft office, experience working with ERP systems and implementations
