The Opportunity

We are actively seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team in Lenexa. In this role, you will be responsible for product cost analysis and preparation of item level costing and pricing recommendations for new and existing products. The Cost Accountant is also responsible for inventory analysis, material accounting, maintenance of standard cost, and tracking purchase price variance. 

The Team

You will work closely with and report to the Director of Finance. You will work in collaboration with management staff by providing accurate information in the areas of costs, budgets, forecasting and to do so in an efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organization.
  • Monitor unit cost variance
  • Implement cost standards for materials and labor
  • Analyze inventory valuations
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Analyze manufacturing operations, equipment availability and utilization
  • Review of slow-moving inventory & reserves
  • Prepare cost of goods sold and production reports
  • Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings.
  • Make estimates of new and proposed product costs.
  • Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products.
  • Conduct physical inventories and monitor the cycle count program.
  • Manage Fixed Asset Additions and IFRS 16 leases.
  • Manage Company Vehicle List and fleet maintenance through Element
  • Perform month-end cost accounting close
  • Reconcile beginning raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished-goods stock
  • Assist in external audits and general ledger preparation.
  • Prepare and complete internal cost audits.
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements.
  • Aid in the forecasting and budgeting processes where applicable
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting and control processes, with a focus on building efficiency and effectiveness and present to the Controller for consideration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Certified public accountant (CPA) license
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience
  • Ability to communicate articulately and efficiently with other people in the company
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently under pressure within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly, strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Made2Manage and IFRS a plus
