The Opportunity

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, AGI Food will be experienced in preparing clear, complete, detailed, and accurate designs and drawing packages for custom manufacturing equipment from concept sketches through to detailed manufacturing drawings. The Senior Mechaical Design Engineer shall lead project design assignments and contribute to the implementation of standards, best practices, and continual improvement.  A solid understanding of Plant Layout, Manufacturing Equipment, Piping Design/Drafting techniques, GD&T, and engineering terminology is required.  A Design Engineering background with experience and specialization in 2D & 3D AutoCAD and Revit, and Solidworks in the design of process equipment is required.  The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead design and manufacturing technology transfer within AGI’s various global locations.  Experience in working seamlessly between Metric and Standard formats is required.

The Team

As a part of a highly dynamic and collaborative Engineering team, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with other engineers, project mangers, suppliers, installers and construction teams.


  • Design and produce 3D models of proposed equipment solutions and associated piping, support structures, electrical cable trays and conduits as required 
  • Produce detailed 2D CAD general arrangement and manufacturing drawings for plant layouts and equipment designs 
  • Work with suppliers and incorporates supplier drawings into 3D models and 2D drawings. 
  • Create detailed Bill of Materials 
  • Take part in Engineering calculations as required  
  • Responsible for consideration of safety within design, installation methodologies, and lifting plans 
  • Participate in site surveys and field measurements  
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) methodologies and participate in the manufacturing and assembly reviews 
  • Ensure all designs are thorough checked and in accordance to internal Design and Documentation standards 
  • Capable of leading technology transfer (Design and Manufacturing) between multiple AGI locations  
  • Lead or attend internal and external design reviews and progress meetings on all aspects of assigned projects 
  • Work closely with other Engineers, Project Mangers, suppliers, installers and construction teams 
  • Assist Project Managers and estimators where required 
  • Review and approve vendor equipment approval drawings 
  • Identify and communicate deviations from scope of work 



  • Degree in Engineering, or Diploma in Engineering / Design Technology or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years + previous 3D and 2D plant equipment design/drafting experience inclusive of responsibilities included in the Job Summary (ideally in agricultural, animal feed, food production, and material handling environment)
  • Knowledge of ASME, NFPA, and OSHA standards pertaining to Manufacturing equipment design 
  • Ability to lead project design, distribute and check other team members’ work 
  • Ability to lead or attend internal, client and vendor meetings in a professional mannerProvide guidance to and mentor team members.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD 2D 
  • Autodesk Revit 3D modelling
  • Solidworks 3D modelling
  • Autodesk BIM 360 experience is an asset
  • Strong written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Management skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work with employees from different divisions, different countries, and different time zones
  • Strong written and verbal command of English language
  • Fluency in French language is an asset
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Extensive travel will be required at the start of employment (France and USA) for onboarding, product and standards training, manufacturing training, and for relationship building
