The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an Equipment Drafter to join the Engineering Design team at our manufacturing facility in Oak Bluff.

In this role, you would be responsible for communicating with various departments, including but not limited to manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering, in order to collect data with which to create and update design drawings in CAD and SolidWorks. You would also perform calculations, review equipment requirements and confirm production methods to meet customer needs.

The Team

This role works within a dynamic team of EIT’s, CETs, and Drafters, collaborating closely with all team members within the department, as well as the production floor. The Equipment Drafter would report directly to the Engineering Manager.


  • Collect data from manufacturing and engineering teams to create 2D and 3D models of Oak Bluff products, using CAD and SolidWorks.
  • Draft high quality part drawings and creating PDFs/DXFs of drawings in collaboration with the Equipment Designer.
  • Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and material requirements for the jobs assigned.
  • Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to effectively illustrate workflow.
  • Act as a liaison between the engineering group and the production floor, listening to their questions and working with the team to find effective answers.
  • Organize and maintain engineering drawings and documentation within the drawings database.
  • Communicate any issues or concerns effectively to the Engineering Manager.
  • Assist with the pre-programming of break software and other automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Occasionally design and test products to ensure that performance targets are met.
  • Identify potential operational issues and address with the engineering team to improve functionality.
  • Support internal business partners by providing technical product support when necessary.
  • Complete work following company policies and safety, design and quality standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of administrative processes within the area.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Engineering Design or Technical Drafting Diploma from a recognized college or institution, or a combination of education and experience is required
  • Well versed in blueprint interpretations and details
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or other parametric CAD software
  • Previous experience in steel and fabrication materials would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to connect with people at all levels within the division
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to own personal development and gain an understanding of the equipment that we manufacture, how it is produced and why designs are made the way they are
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Exercises good judgment, initiative, and a strong work ethic
