The Opportunity

The Engineering Manager will plan, coordinate, and direct engineering department activities, personnel, and strategy. This role will provide technical leadership for both the Application and System engineering groups. The role will also monitor internal and external customer demands and align team adequately to support sales and growth targets.

The Team

This role reports to the Director of Application Engineering, NA and will include the coordination with corporate leadership to assure engineering is meeting expectations and utilizing available resources.  The Engineering Manager will have up to 10 direct reports including engineers and designers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a technically competent and customer centered engineering department.
  • Assure the overall output quality and efficiency of the Applications Engineering team, continuously improving the process infrastructure, and growing internal talent while driving the company’s vision for growth through successful execution of multiple large-scale projects
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure department operates within corporate objectives and expectations.
  • Apply methodical and safe engineering principles.
  • Follow established engineering standards and product integrity.
  • Confer with other departments to guarantee engineering is delivering projects within customer expectations.
  • Sustain engineering department to quickly provide intercompany technical assistance, drawings, and other assistance as needed.
  • Provide training and mentoring to implement a strong understanding of AGI equipment as it relates to applicable industries.
  • Lead complex technical evaluations of project requirements.
  • Aid in after-market support when required.
  • Identify market needs and growth opportunities and coordinate with Global Product Management to address these needs.
  • Provide/develop adequate training documents to quickly and effectively onboard engineering staff.
  • Direct, review, and approve special product applications with the GPM team.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and recruitment.
  • Set departmental goals to ensure proactive work is being accomplished leading to a continuous improvement culture.
  • Utilization and continuous improvements in ERP system to allow for engineering project management, schedule, resource availability.
  • Communicate product liability, design flaws, compliance risks or other safety/quality exposure by utilizing proper ECR channels.
  • Provide technical direction to the Sales Execution teams (quoting/order fulfillment)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical or Agricultural Engineering from an accredited four-year program
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience. General manufacturing knowledge.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of controls/automation systems.
  • General manufacturing knowledge.
  • Eligible for and/or pursuing Professional Engineer certification
  • Experience with industrial/bulk material handling equipment (examples: agriculture, cement, minerals, mining, food, waste)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage time well
  • Good leadership and analytic qualities
  • Self-directed and results-oriented
  • Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, AutoCAD. Inventor, Solidworks, and Vault preferred.
