The Opportunity

AGI is seeking a Co-Op student to support the execution of sustainability strategic initiatives and ESG data management at the corporate level for four months starting September 2022. The role requires a person with passion and experience for ESG topics, such as GHG emissions, diversity & inclusion, energy management, and design for sustainability, among others. This is a high visibility role with the chance to work across all levels of the organization, from the Executive Team to facility-level operators. Part of the role will be dedicated to collecting data on ESG topics while preparing tools and level-setting resources to aid in AGI’s sustainability journey. To contribute to the success of these tools and resources, the person will also have to report on research relating to industry trends and best management practices. The Team

The Co-Op will work closely with the Senior Manager of Global Sustainability for AGI with frequent interactions with the Corporate Development team. They will be required to interact with teams across Canada and the U.S. dedicated to manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, and corporate offices.


  • Assist with the delivery of various ESG initiatives, and project management activities
  • Coordinate data collection with facilities on specific ESG topics
  • Assist with ESG data management – including designing workflows and dashboards for enabling evidence-based decision making
  • Conduct market research on ESG trends and best practices
  • Contribute to creating internal progress updates for senior management
  • Support in the development of internal case studies, reports, and business cases


  • Must have:
    • Undergraduate (completed 2 years of coursework) or Masters candidate (completed 1 year) with a STEM background
    • Demonstrated interest in sustainability topics through past internships, research projects and/ or coursework- such as energy management, GHG emissions, product lifecycle assessment, diversity & inclusion etc.
    • Quantitative and qualitative research abilities
    • Ability to work well in a team environment
    • Report writing skills and ability to communicate complex topics
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Good to have
    • Prior experience preparing reports that incorporate market research, industry sources, and data analysis to communicate findings
    • Working towards a university or college degree in sustainability, environmental engineering, or a related field
    • Experience using energy modeling software – Homer, RETScreen or Trnsys
