Core Function

Under the direction of the General Manager, AGI Fertilizer, North America, the Operations Manager manages the day-to-day operations and is responsible to achieve the financial objectives of the Junge business.  An emphasis will be on continuing to standardize and improve core products & software.  Because Junge Control also has an engineer-to-order component to the business, the position has an elevated focus on the management of the engineering, technical and product management team.

The Operations Manager provides direct management, leadership, mentorship and support to Junge’s engineering and technical team to ensure the product line is supported with engineering resources and these resources are effective, consistent and sustainable.

The Operation Manager provides direct guidance to Inside Sales, Operations, HR & Safety and Finance and facilitates cooperation and communication across these departments.

Authority

  • The Operations Manager is appointed by the General Manager, AGI Fertilizer, North America, who shall delegate sufficient authority to manage to sales and operations of the Cedar Rapids location.
  • To ensure sales, customer service and manufacturing of products are supported through complete and accurate drawings, BOM’s, and specifications.

  • To improve and expand Junge’s product catalogue as required by performing cost reductions, continuous design improvements, analysis, testing, and other routine design engineering activities.
  • To engage with production and purchasing to insure Junge’s products are produced with the highest achievable quality.
  • To direct Sales to insure orders are designed and delivered as prescribed and on time.

Functional Relationships

  • AGI Vice-President, Global Engineering and AGI Vice President, Commercial Operations (North America) for guidance & support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, leadership, and mentoring to the engineering and technical  team.
  • Oversee the application engineering and configuration of all product lines.
  • Support the quoting and selling process by ensuring customer requirements are met through the application of sound engineering principles.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement of product designs and manufacturing processes through the AGI LEAN process.. 
  • Ensure changes are managed and implemented through adherence to the engineering change management process.
  • Provide field support and manufacturing support to operations.  Employ troubleshooting strategies to quickly determine root cause of defects and issues.
  • Ensure designs are complete and fit for intended purposes, conform to internal design practices and requirements, and compliant with external codes, standards and regulations.
  • Perform advanced analysis and make design decisions based on results.  Review the design calculations of others to ensure proper application of engineering techniques.
  • Ensure accurate CAD models, drawings, and bills of materials are generated and maintained to support sales, production, and documentation teams.
  • Comply with Divisional and AGI Engineering standards, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist with project quoting and estimating as required.
  • Comply with company policies, operating procedures and health & safety guidelines.

Technical Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar.
  • Strong theoretical and practical working knowledge of the design of electronic control systems through PLC’s and PC Software. Relevant experience with machinery control systems in other industries would be an asset;
  • Business management fundamentals through a degreed program or similar. Proficiency with financial accounting, General Ledger Accounts, Operational analysis and budget preparation.

  • Experience in managing a team of engineering, technical and sales professionals in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written, who thrives on solving problems while working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills while working cooperatively & effectively in a collaborative design team, including representatives from other AGI facilities, departments, customers, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem solving, decision making, organizational and time management skill.
  • Exercises good judgment, initiative, and a strong work ethic and a sense of urgency.

Accountability and Performance Measurement

  • Ability to work effectively with divisional teams.
  • Development and maintenance of consistent and sustainable engineering designs and documentation.
  • Engineering and technical team member development.
  • Divisional EBITDA.
  • Quality and On-time delivery metrics.

Duties

  • Supervises staff including overseeing the daily operations, executing plans and assignments. 
  • Hiring, training, motivating and developing employees as well as disciplinary and termination action to ensure company EBITDA goals are met.
  • Works with the General Manager, AGI Fertilizer, North America to ensure strategic plans are developed and carried out, corporate goals are reached in the most efficient and effective manner and operational issues are addressed. 
  • Develops and adheres to yearly budgets for all assigned areas. Reviews monthly financial statements and performance to budget.
  • Facilitates information exchange between manufacturing support, production, quality, shipping and corporate management.  This includes the transfer of business goals into actionable technical terms, as well as communicating problems for resolution.
